You may have heard about the little lobster that could on CBC, travelling from St. Martins to Maine in just 421 days. This little lobster was tagged as a sub-legal lobster as part of a lobster aging study. While many studies have shown that lobster can travel from the Bay of Fundy to Maine, it was still an extraordinary experience to be flipping through social media and see Jacob Knowles, a Maine lobster fishmen who makes social media content, holding my tagged lobster.

Jacob and I took the time to have a wonderful chat and he was able to post a few videos about the call.

While this study does not look at lobster movement directly, the Rochette lab has tagged over 2000 lobster in the past 2 years. This little vacation the lobster took captured the eyes of many. Hopefully one day she returns to the Bay of Fundy and is caught again!

A link to one of the many stories can be seen here:

With the busiest time of the year, lots of things are happening! Between conferences, tagging starting up and meeting the creator of the tags, things have been very busy!

I was able to get a few lovely lobsters tagged out of Parker's Cove, NS this weekend! Two lucky boys got some new tags that will be with them until August of next year. I will be making another trip back soon to tag some more!

I was also lucky enough to meet up with the creator of the satellite tags I use. Marco from Desert Star Systems LLC. came up for a visit and was able to drop off a few more tags! It was so nice to finally meet him!

Welcome to fall tagging season of 2023!

Always love getting these calls on the weekend! One of the luck lady lobster tagged in December on the F/V Half Mine was caught again by them on the weekend! It is going to be an exciting wait until August to see where she went on her journey.

The crew was nice enough to put her back in the water to continue her journey but not before sending me lots of photos and a video of them putting her back in, which enters them in the draw to win $200!

Remember, anyone who catches one of these lobster can also be entered into a draw to win $200 if they send a video of the lobster being safely returned to the water!
